Business Owners are people within the customer who are responsible for managing the commercial relationship with the supplier. They are users of Canopy, and perform a unique role in managing the Supplier Profile.

Role and responsibilities of Business Owners
Business Owners are the people at the customer who are responsible for managing the relationship with the supplier. For example, they may be the buyer, or a senior stakeholder with overall accountability for the supplier contract, or the primary point of contact for the supplier.
It is best practice to ensure that every Supplier Profile on Canopy is assigned at least one Business Owner.
The Business Owners performs two roles on Canopy:
- The Business Owner has responsibility to ensure the supplier keeps their profile up to date.
- The Business Owner has permission to edit the information on the Supplier Profile, if the Profile Admin is set to Internal
Difference between Business Owners and Primary Business Owners
There is no difference in the user permissions between a Business Owner and a 'Primary' Business Owner. The 'Primary' label is used to help signify which Business Owner takes the lead in managing the relationship with the supplier.

Notifications received by Business Owners
Business Owners receive notifications by email whenever the Supplier Profile changes status. These include:
- Approval or Rejection of new supplier request, informing the Requestor (i.e. the Business Owner) about the outcome of their request to invite a new supplier
- Approval or Rejection of overall supplier onboarding, informing the Business Owner whether or not their supplier has been approved and is not published on Canopy ready to trade
- If the Profile Admin is Internal, in addition to the emails above, they will also receive the following:
- Confirmation messages upon Submission, informing the Profile Admin that the Supplier Profile has been successfully submitted for approval
- Information requests from Approvers, whereby the Approver is challenging one of the answers and asking for additional information to be shared
